Lincoln University~q~s Master ofHorticultural Science provides graduates with advanced training in scholarshipand research in the area of Horticultural Science. Specific disciplines caninclude Plant Science, Plant Protection, and Viticuture and Oenology.

    Courses

 

CompulsoryCourses

You will need to meet with your researchsupervisor to determine the courses you will need for your chosen specialty. Typically,your first year will consist of six courses chosen from appropriate disciplineareas such as plant science, viticulture and oenology, plant protection, andsoil science. In your second year you will conduct your experiments and writeyour thesis.

Entry Requirements
• For 240 credit Masters (thesis and exam): a relevant degree with at least a Bgrade average in the 300 level and final year (full-time equivalent) courses

• For 120 credit Masters (thesis only): a relevant postgraduate honours degreewith Second Class Honours, Division One or its equivalent (or higher).

Plant Breeding

DESCRIPTION:

Lincoln University~q~s Plant Breedingspecialisation in the MSc prepares students for employment as a plant breederin either the cropping or pastoral industries. These jobs are in high demandboth within New Zealand and internationally. The core courses within thisspecialisation have been designed to align with internationally-recognisedplant breeding qualifications and are continually revised in collaboration withthe New Zealand industry to ensure the provision of an industry-relevantqualification. We have both research facilities and research programmes thatstretch from molecular biology through to field-based breeding programmes andstrong ties with local breeding companies and Crown Research Institute-basedbreeding initiatives. This ensures that there are project opportunities andaccess to the best breeding programmes and breeders in the country. We alsorun, as part of the required course work, field tours of breeding programmesacross the South Island.
